Draft Audio Story

I interviewed Makalen Hughes who’s dad has been a professional body builder for 5 years now. Makalen, mom and her sister and brother have traveled to many places with thier dad so that he could participate in numerous body building competitions around the United States. I felt like Makalen was an excellent person to interview on the topic of fitness and health because she has also competed with her dad at some of the competitions, and they work out together regularly. Makalen and her dad both feel that regular workout is incredibly important. Just because they do competitions for it and tend to work out more than the average person. It is still important for mental stability and to help someone gain confidence in themselves, and makes people feel and look healthier. Makalen often goes to the gym here at Washington State University. She runs on the treadmill and she says it helps her anxiety a lot because when she is running she is able to think through her schedule and her upcoming week. She also says that it makes her feel accomplished after she finishes a run. She sparked my inspiration for this because she had many good points that could be backed up because of what her and her dad have competed in. While interviewing her we talked a lot about fitness because she is very passionate and interested in everything health and fitness. Overall, I think that this insight was helpful to me because I learned a lot as I picked Makalen’s brain on this topic. She was very insightful and had lots of knowledge to give because she is always reading up on the latest trends and fads about health tips and new workouts. She was happy to have someone who can partially relate because I work out myself.

  1. I like the topic. Working out is key to keeping healthy and it is an important part of life in terms of hobbies and having fun. It is also important to enjoy the workout and to remember that what you are doing has some great benefits and overall can improve your well being. I think the narration is done really well and the audio sounds really good. The interview portion is also interesting. Bodybuilders are the peak of muscular fitness and having a source to talk with like that is really helpful. The interview sounds good and I like how you provide an outro for the audio rather than just closing after the sound bite. I did notice a slight click before the interview so that should not be hard to edit out. Besides that if you want to add another interview in to make the story longer that would be a good idea.

  2. You have a really cool topic, and this is a very relevant website for college students because working out and trying to be in good shape is tough to balance with classes and everything else going on. I really like the introduction you have because it gives a really good description of your draft, and it gives a good preview of what the listener will hear. The sounds quality is very good, and the perspective of the speaker seems credible so good job with that. The only thing I would say that might help your initial draft a little bit is by adding a little something extra in the background or maybe someone else’s perspective on the topic. If you did something to make the sound pop a little more or add something to the background, this would be absolutely phenomenal. Despite that, you have a really good starting point with this first draft, and you have set yourself up well for the final draft. Good job and keep up the hard work.

  3. overall I really enjoyed you audio story! I like that you chose a topic that everybody can relate too and in my opinion something that everybody should do. There are a myriad of physical and mental benefits to staying active and I think its important to accentuate these. I also like how you gave a brief description to listeners about what you were talking about before you asked makalen any questions; it made here response more meaningful. There are only a couple suggestions that I would have for your final project. The first is I would think about briefly asking some questions to someone who is physically active themselves. I believe that this would establish some credibility and possibly would be more motivating to people who are not active. Besides that, I would edit the audio slightly as there are some long pauses and choppy segments of the recording. Despite this, I think you are off to a great start!

  4. I really like your topic and your explanation makes it all clearer. It is very well put together, sounds very professional, and follows a solid storyline. I can tell your passion through your project and it makes listeners more engaged because they can tell you care about the topic. I do agree with you that working out once a day is good for you, mentally, physically and emotionally. Working out releases natural dopamine in you brain and it good for anxiety and depression. It is very professional of you to find someone who is a body builder for a living because it supports your theme so much more. For critique I would say maybe practice recording it a couple more times to make it sound more natural and less robotic. Other than that, I think your story is great and there are no ums or ambient sounds which make recordings so much better.
